Melati was a ten-year-old Sumatran tiger that was killed by a potential mating partner while taking part in a captive breeding program at the London Zoo in 2019. Sumatran tigers are critically endangered because nearly 80% of their forest habitat has been destroyed by logging. They are also at risk due to poaching, killing, and hunting.
