Visual Description of Artwork
Acrylic painting, measuring 16 inches high by 12 inches wide, in black, white and grey tones. A large black circle, partly obscured, fills the lower right of the canvas. It is the same black circle that has been moving from left to right across the bottom half of the four Motion paintings. Most of the top half of this painting is white negative space. A small black circle which first appeared in the upper left corner in Motion #1 has made its journey across all the paintings, and is now in the upper right corner of Motion #4. It is poised at the edge, about to move off the canvas.
This is the fourth and final painting in this series about circles in motion. The paintings are arranged in two pairs. Motion #4 is directly to the right of Motion #3, and directly beneath Motion #2. The relationship between all four paintings creates the illusion that the circles, resolute and resilient, move from one canvas to another. In Motion #4, most of the circles have disappeared. Where did they go?
