Artist Statement
Art has been my voice—a way to share my journey as an immigrant and to connect with others beyond language. Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, I immigrated to the United States as a teenager, navigating the complexities of a new culture while holding onto my heritage. This experience shaped my artistic practice, leading me to use painting as a means of storytelling, a bridge between cultures, and a celebration of identity.
At this critical time, when the world is grappling with divisions, it is more important than ever to expand our understanding of different cultures and listen to the stories of immigrants. Through my paintings, I honor and celebrate my Korean roots, my family’s journey, and the deep appreciation I have for my heritage. My work is an invitation to see that, despite our differences, we are deeply connected as human beings bound by shared emotions, resilience, and the universal longing for belonging.
