My tea bowl collection inspires me in many ways. These two quilts form a diptych, exploring the layers of garden and tea ceremony.

Visual Description of Artwork

This almost-square quilt comprises two fields: a rectangular band across the top quarter of the quilt and, below that, a much bigger rectangle. The top panel is a patchwork of smaller rectangles, mostly in white, black and grey and made of transferred images, including some text, some handwriting, and a photographic image of a clock face. On the far right of this patchwork panel is a painterly square, with visible brushstrokes and triangular blocks of color in deep purple, orange and green. Below the top panel is a large rectangular field of white covered in splattered and painted marks of rusk and, at the bottom, splattered marks of royal blue. The rust-colored marks in this field vary in thickness: some wide lines, bleeding across the fabric, some thinner lines forming a rough grid.
