Pangolins are insect-eating mammals originating in Africa and Asia. They are the world’s most trafficked non-human mammal despite a 2017 international trade ban on all eight pangolin species. The illegal trade in pangolins is being investigated (along with that of bats) as a possible factor in the outbreak of COVID-19.
